Pedigree Registered Heifers average €1,872 at March Carnaross Sale.
87 pedigree registered heifers sold for an average of €1,872 at the 115th Carnaross Livestock Mart dairy sale, conducted by Taaffe Auctions, which took place on March 12th last.
28 heifers sold for €2,000 or higher with four heifers commanding prices of €2,500 or higher.
Top priced heifer was Cannontown Armour Bridgid (lot 140) sold for €2,782 for Michael McDonnell, Termonfeckin, Drogheda. Calved just over a month she is milking 32 litres/day. Her dam recorded 9,673kgs milk with 3.80% protein in her 2nd lactation.
Other top priced heifers included;
• Bawn Splendor Flossie (lot 85) bred by Oliver Whelan, Athenry, Co. Galway sold for €2,730. Calved six weeks this Lynbrook Splendor daughter is milking 31 litres/day. She is bred from a VG85 dam and VG86 grand dam.
• Browelite Pesky Star (lot 105) bred by Stephen Lawlor, Navan, Co. Meath sold for €2,625. Her dam recorded over 10,000kgs milk, 685kgs milk solids in her 3rd lactation.
• Cannontown Greg Gay (lot 37) bred by Michael McDonnell, Termonfeckin, Drogheda sold for €2,520. Calved a month, she is milking to 34 litres/day. Bred from the Gay family (Elmgrove), her grand dam Cannontown Shottle Gay EX90 recorded over 90,000kgs milk, 6,342kgs milk solids lifetime yield.
• Kilskyre Big Maiki Daffodil (lot 64) bred by Thomas Stafford, Clonmellon, Co. Meath sold for €2,415. Calved since February 1st she is milking to 35 litres/day. From a home-bred family, her grand dam recorded a 5th lactation yield of 9,121kgs milk, 4.61% fat, 3.58% protein, 747kgs milk solids.
With a total catalogue entry of 165 also including 2nd & 3rd calvers there was ample choice on offer.
