Club Notes – Winter 2020

Field Evenings
During the summer the two field evenings were well attended and fortunately we had good weather at both. Gary Jones, well know International judge was master Judge at our chairman’s evening. Gold and Diamond awards were presented to Jim Byrne, Thomas Byrne, Denis Doran, Denis Kehoe, Noel Kehoe, Philip Jones, Sean Murphy and Owen Murphy from IHFA for their individual cows who produced over 3000Kgs of Protein in their lifetime so far and some classified EX by IHFA. At Ray Murphys the judge was our herds competition judge, Andrew Jones. John Kirby, classifier from IHFA demonstrated the importance of classification as a tool with breeding decisions on the farm. Many thanks to the ladies on both nights for the super array of food and to the herds for their quality stock.

The top scores over the two nights were
Seniors – Kathleen Watson, Anthony Kealy and Sean Hurley
18-26 – Louise Sinnott, Garroid Murphy and Andrew French.
Under 18 – Jane Mooney, Brian Hurley and Bill Quigley.

The overall, Kathleen Watson, recieved the Buitlear Cup. The following, represented the club at the IHFA Open Day at the Radney herd in Cork, as a number of the above were unavailable on the day.

Club YMA Calf Show and Gorey Show
Our club calf show took place in conjunction with the Gorey show on Saturday 15th of June. There was a great turn out of calf there and it was great to see a few new exhibitors. Thanks to our YMA coordinator Mark Hurley and all others who helped ensuring the smooth running of this event.

IHFA Open Day
The club was represented by our National Herds Competition entrants:- Clonpaddin (over 80 Cows) and Cathu (Spring Section) Herds and our stock judging winners for 2019.  Well done to all.

Bannow Rathangan & Tinahely Shows
We had a small number of entries in the dairy section at the Bannow Rathangan show. At the Tinahely show the club served the usual tea and sandwiches from our caravan thanks to John Atkinson for his commentary throughout the day. Well done to all exhibitors and especially to Anthony Kealy who had the champion on the day.

The Barbecue
