Club Notes – Spring 2019
The AGM and silage competition results were on 23rd October. The AGM was very well attended. There were a few changes to club officers; Chairman – Philip Jones. Secretary – Kathleen Watson, PRO – Joe Kehoe. YMA Coordinator – Mark Hurley
Peter Clancy and Stephen Hughes from Agriking, sponsor of silage competition congratulated the winners:
Pit silage – John Atkinson, Sean Hurley and Ned Copeland.
Bales – Sean Condren, John Atkinson and David French.
Peter asked John Atkinson as winner of the pit silage to give a run down on his method of making quality Silage. He said that he tries to reseed the ground every 5 years as he believes the older swords don’t take up the nitrogen as well or as quickly. He applies 94 units’ urea at end of January and 3000gls of slurry. Silage ground is grazed and closed off by end March when 3cwt 18.6.12+S is applied. The idea then is to cut the silage around 17th May weather permitting.
