Club Notes – Winter 2019
On the 2nd of November eleven young members from the club made the trip to Gurteen agricultural college for the National YMA workshop. Thanks to all leaders involved who gave demo’s on cow linear, breeding decisions, reason giving and calf health. Thanks also to the senior yma members for organising a day of fun activities.
Cannontown & Knowthfarm herd visits
Next outing pre Christmas on the 20th of November was a trip east to the Cannontown and Knowthfarm herds. Thanks very much to both farms for taking time out of there day to facilitate our visit. Detailed discussion on cow diet, breeding decisions and other important aspects of day to day farm business took place. Thank very much to the Mcdonnell and McGrane families.
Arrabawn SCC Awards
Well done to Gerry and Aidan Forde (Corrandulla herd) and Thomas Burke (Killupan herd) who were awarded for SCC quality at a recent arrabawn area meeting held on the 13th of January.
All Ireland Awards 2019
Well done to Kane Boal , James Cahill and Tommy Screene who were recipients at the recent IHFA All Ireland awards night held in the Killeshin hotel, Portlaoise. Kane received reserve champion award for his heifer “Sprucegrove Awesome Bar” and also received the winning trophy for the 18 to 26 stockjudging section, James received reserve champion award for his heifer “Sprucegrove Chief Harmonica”. Tommy screene received a diamond award which is given to a cow having produced north of 3000kgs of protein in her lifetime and also classifying Excellent. Well done again lads.
