Club Notes – Winter 2019
A sincere thank you to all families who accommodated the Club’s Stock Judging and Awards Night on their farms and events during the year. We thank all our sponosrs who have been very generous in their support and sponsorship not only this year but in previous years also.
There was a discussion information evening held in Springhill Hotel, Kilkenny on Thursday 28 March. This was broadly based upon the topic Bulls and Spring Breeding whereby Bova, Worldwide Sires, Eurogene and NCBC and Dovea were invited to attend and speak. It was well attended and very informative.
The club held two field evenings this year, along with the Club’s Awards Night.
The First Field evening was kindly hosted by Seamus O’Shea and Family at Borris on their farm on 24th May. Colin Stephenson was judge on the night. A fantastic display of stock was put forward. There was a great attendance on the night.
Stephen Corrigan and family kindly hosted the second evening of stock judging on their farm at Garretstown, Rathvilly on the 14th of June 2019. There was also a calf demonstration held on the night for children who had an interest in learning a few tips about showmanship and calf preparation. This Stock Judging Field Evening was also well supported by both club and non-club members. Thank you to Tony Jackson for judging on the night. Again, the quality of stock on display was excellent.
Many thanks to both judges and the O’Shea and Corrigan families for providing food and refreshments on both evenings.
This year the Mulhall Family of Danville Holsteins kindly hosted the Club’s Awards Night. The huge crowd in attendance was certainly a testament to the calibre of the Danville Herd. Victor O’Sullivan and Enda Jordan were the judges on the night and was given the tough challenge of deciding the placing of each cow in its respective class.
Again, sincere thank you to the Mulhall Family for hosting the awards night and openly welcoming all attendees to their farm.
With regard to the main event, the awards night for the Herds competition, the results of the herds competition were also provided on the night.
This year the club decided it would have two master judges. Enda Jordan Judged the Novice and Junior Section of the Clubs Herds Competition with Victor O’Sullivan judging the Intermediate and Senor Sections of the
