Club Notes – Spring 2020
Our annual AGM was held on 3rd December 2019 in Cootehill. As some of our committee members kept their current roles, a very important position changed hands on the night. Our club secretary for over 30 years stepped down from her role. As many of you know, this lady played a very important part in Breffni Oriel and with our young YMA. Mary Rafferty was always there to lend a hand and no job was to big or small. Mary’s dedication to the club was shown when she was presented with the Person of the Year Award. On the 50th anniversary of the IHFA, a presentation was made to Mary of the Breed Promotion Recognition Award in 2015. We want to take this opportunity to wish Mary the best of luck and thank her for all her dedication throughout the years. We also would like to wish Pauric McEnerny all the best in his new role as Club Secretary.
Our annual Dinner Dance was held in the Cavan Cyrstal, County Cavan, on the 22nd November. There was a good turnout from club members and a great night was had by all. Presentations on the night were made to our prize winners for Stock Judging. A presentation was also made on the night to Mrs Brid O’Reilly from Drumlin House, Cootehill.
The last show of 2019 was a great day for the club. Our YMA members, as always, did us proud. Very well done to them all. Reserve Jersey Junior Champion went to P. Greenan and family with Clandeboye Oliver P Marble, who also took Junior Interbreed Champion. Reserve Shorthorn Champion went to James Lambe and family with Cotonhall Empire Cherry. Reserve Ayrshire Champion went to C Keenan and family with Threemile Bella. They also took Heifer Champion with Threemile Eldorado Mist. Congratulations to all our members who exhibited on the day.
Our Club Tour will take place on the 29th April. The destinations are Gurteen Agricultural College and a tour of the Abbey Farm Machinery Factory, Nenagh. It will be a great trip for all. The Herds Competition will take place the week beginning the 15th June. More details to follow. Our first Stock Judging evenings will be held on the farm of Clayton Coulter, Emyvale, County Monaghan, on Friday 26th June at 7pm. The second evening will take place on the farm of Raymond Scott, Caughoo, Ballinagh, County Cavan, on the 10th July. Excellent evening for a social outing.
We would like to wish all our members a happy and safe 2020. As always new members are always welcome.
