Tremendous successful sale – full clearance of 32 female Lots, averaging 3,550 guineas
The Leagh & Lynbrook “Promise of Protein” sale on Wednesday, June 19th witnessed a tremendously positive trade where youngstock lots from choice cow families of International repute were offered at auction. The sale is one of the most highly anticipated annual breeder sales of the year, organised by Tim, Maureen & Lauren Fitzmaurice “Leagh” herd, Ballyduff, Co. Kerry and John Cunnane “Lynbrook” herd, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo. The sale was conducted by Taaffe Auctions and took place at Carnaross Mart, Co. Meath. Other vendors who consigned select lots included Ardhill (Frank White, Clonakilty, Co. Cork), Boroside (Melvin Masterson, Rathnure, Co. Wexford, Clonpaddin (Hurley family, Arklow, Co. Wicklow).

Leagh Toxic Queen Red ET (Lot 5) sold for 8,600 gns was the top price of the sale. A January born Red & White calf, sired by Altitude Red, bred from an All-American Dam & Grand Dam. Her Dam Strans-Jen-D Tequila Red ET EX96 3E was Champion Red & White World Dairy Expo (USA) in 2015. Full sisters to Leagh Toxic Queen Red ET include Riverdane Altitude Tequila Red ET sold for 21,000 gns at the Riverdane (UK) sale 2023 and a first-choice heifer offered in the Promise of Protein sale last year sold for 8,000 gns.
A first-choice heifer calf from three female pregnancies due in early December from the Bonnie cow family sold for 8,000 gns. This was the first time for members of this family to be offered for sale in the Republic of Ireland. Donor Dam Fraeland Solomon Bonnie ET EX93 is baked by four generations of EX Dams with high yields and components. She has recorded three consecutive lactations over 9,000 kgs milk. 5.30 % Fat, 3.50 % Protein. Her maternal sisters include 10 EX & 24 VG cows. The flush sire of this first choice offering is Farnear Delta-Lambda
A first-choice heifer calf from 3 ET female pregnancies due in November commanded the next highest price, selling for 6,800 gns. Hillrose Altitude Adaya Red ET is the donor Dam whose full sisters include Hilrose Altitude Ariel Red VG87, Hilrose Altitude Aero Red EX, Hilrose Altitude Ava Red EX, Hilrose Altitude Audi Red EX91 each being All-American award nominees and Hilrose Altitude Adore Red 2nd Red & White Spring Yearling World Dairy Expo 2023. The sire of this first choice offering is Siemers Wolf Hulu 37006 ET RC.

- Boroside Lambda Hope ET (Lot 6) bred by Melvin Masterson sold for 6,600 gns. Born in March and sired by Lambda, her Grand Dam S-S-I Doc Have Not 8784 ET EX96 4E is the Dam of multiple sons in International AI programmes. Her Dam Duckett Conway Hope ET VG 2-Year-Old is maternal sister to Duckett Parfect Hadley ET VG86 2-Year-Old, Duckett Parfect Holly VG86 2-Year-Old and Duckett Pfct Has It All, a high genomic bull in stud with Select Sires USA.She recorded afirst lactation yield of 10,124 kgs milk, 4.30 % Fat, 3.70 % Protein in 326 days. Melvin offered a free flush of the heifer on the day as an added offer, compliments of Masterscan his embryo business.
- Leagh Chief Katrysha ET (Lot 24) sold for 5,500 gns. She is a potential 9th generation VG/EX. Sired by Stantons Chief ET she was born in September last year. Her full sisters include Leagh Keep it Klassy ET, sold for 6,000 gns Summer Sizzler sale 2022, Leagh Kynder Bruno ET sold for 5,300 gns Leagh sale 2022 and Leagh Chief Kiss ET VG86 2-Year-Old sold for 4,200 gns Leagh sale 2022.
- Boroside Haniko Jazzy (Lot 10) bred by Melvin Masterson sold for 5,400 gns. She is a potential seventh generation VG/EX and a potential fifth generation 3.50 % Protein Dam. Sired by Haniko, she as born in August 2023. Her Dam Leagh Chief Magpie ET VG86 2 Year-Old was purchased for 7,100 gns in the Leagh & Lynbrook sale 2022. Currently in her first lactation she has a projected yield of 8,326 kgs milk, 621 kgs milk solids, 3.96 % Fat. 3.50 % Protein. She is a maternal sister to 6 VG cows.
- Ardhill Irene ET RC bred by Frank White (Lot 11) sold for 4,600 gns. Her Dam Suard-Red Jordan Irene Red EX97 6E is the first Red & White Cow in Europe to Classify EX97. Her accolades include twice winning European Champion Red & White cow (2013 & 2016) and Holstein International World Champion Red & White Cow 2019. Sired by Walnutlawn Solomon, she was born in June 2022 and sold with a P.D. to Delta Primetine Red PP (sexed) with a due date of mid-December. Her maternal sisters include seven EX cows and Glasson Ebron Moo Jo Irene ET VG87 2 Year-Old sold for 14,000 gns at the Summer Sizzler sale 2021.
- Clonpaddin Doc Fame (Lot 20) bred by the Hurley family sold for 3,600 gns. She is a potential 6th generation EX. Born in September last year, her sire is Woodcrest King Doc. Her Dam Clonpaddin Fever Fame EX94 7E won Champion Cow, Slaney club herds competition 2023. In her 5th lactation she recorded 8,936 kgs milk , 725 kgs milk solids, 4.48 % Fat, 3.64 % Protein. Her Dam is Clonpaddin Spot Fame EX92 5E from Cradenhill Linjet Fame EX93 2E.

IHFA 49th Annual Bull Show & Sale Report

Congratulations to all the exhibitors at The 49th Annual IHFA Premiere Bull Show and Sale held on Wednesday, March 27th at the GVM Livestock Centre Kilmallock Co. Limerick. The new venue brought large crowds with only standing room as the sale commenced.
The bulls topped out at €4,800 and averaged €3,150 with a 85% clearance.
The Champion bull selected by judge Rickey Barrett was Mountfarna Gulliver from John O’Callaghan, Mountfarna herd. He was backed by seven generations of EX/VG cows and is maternal brother to last year’s champion Mountfarna Premiere.
Reserve went to Monamore Exhibit from James and Thomas Kelly’s Monamore herd.
The top price of the sale went to Lot 13: Radney Kentucky from Henry O’Keeffe and he sold for €4,800. The second highest price of the sale also went to Henry O’Keeffe for Lot 9: Radney Alaska and he sold for €4,700.
