Two Autumn 2019 born heifers sold for over €5,000
The Leagh herd of Tim and Maureen Fitzmaurice & family, Ballyduff, Co. Kerry, and the Lynbrook herd of John Cunnane, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo, combined to offer a youngstock Promise of Protein Sale at Carnaross Mart, Co. Meath, on Wednesday August 19th. The catalogue offering on the day comprised 32 high-calibre lots in total.
Leagh Crushab Divinity ET was the top price of the sale, selling for €5,400. Believed to be the first ever family member to sell at auction in Ireland, this November 2019 born Crushabull daughter is bred from a high-profile cow family. Her Canadian dam, Claynook Divinity Unix ET is scored VG88 on conformation including EX90 Mammary (max score). She recorded high constituents of 5.00% fat, 3.80% protein in her 2nd lactation. Leagh Crushab Divinity ET is a maternal sister to the AI bulls Claynook Digit ET and Claynook University ET.
Leagh DR Unix Arangatang ET was the next top price, selling for €5,355. She is a Unix daughter of Ortongrange Doorman Arangatang ET VG89 (2nd lactation), owned by John Moore, Lemrac Herd, Rhode, Co. Offaly, who won Champion Heifer In-Milk at Emerald Expo 2017.
Leagh LE Unix Lavish ET sold for €3,830. She is a potential 13th generation VG/EX from the Lavish family with her dam Beechrow Diamondback Lavish scoring VG86 as a two-year-old. She recorded 9,623kgs, 772kgs milk solids, 4.50% fat, 3.52% protein.
Lynbrook Secretariat Erin, jointly owned by John and Tim, sold for €3,780. Sired by Secretariat EX95, her dam, Leagh MPW Eroy ET GP84, is projected to yield over 8,500kgs milk and 616kgs milk solids in her first lactation. Her full sister, Lynbrook Atwood Erin ET VG87, won many showing successes including Reserve Junior Champion RUAS Winter Fair 2018 and Reserve Junior Champion Emerald Expo 2019. She has four maternal sisters who are all scored Excellent on conformation.
Leagh Lesperron Unix Lavish ET sold for €3,675. A full sister to Leagh LE Unix Lavish ET (above) who sold for €3,830. Another full sister, Leagh D Unix Lavish, sold for €2,835 while maternal sister, Leagh Secretariat Lavish 2 ET, sold for €2,152.
Lynbrook Spectre Licorice sold for €2,835. She is a potential 9th generation VG/EX. She sold with a service to Carlino (sexed), with an expected calving date of February next year. Her dam, Lynbrook Silver Licorice VG86, recorded over 9,900kgs milk, 4.15% fat, 4.12% protein in her first lactation.
Lynbrook Hail Licorice jointly owned by John and Tim sold for €2,625. She is a potential 7th generation VG/EX. Bred from the same family as Lynbrook Spectre Licorice (above), she has four maternal sisters who are all scored VG/EX on conformation.
Lynbrook Popeye Arleigh, jointly owned by John and Tim sold for €2,520. She is a potential 14th generation VG/EX and is backed by four generations of over 3.80% protein dams. She is one of the first daughters of Vekis DG Popeye to sell in Ireland.
The auction was conducted under Covid-19 protocols. It was a combination auction, incorporating live web streaming with an online auction facility where buyers could view the sale online, enter bids online and therefore successfully purchase animals without having to be present in person at the sale premises.
