Winter Fair 2011

RUAS, Win­ter Fair 2011, Bal­moral N IRL Southern Breeders dominate the Holstein Friesian classes at the Winter Fair, RUAS, Balmoral!

Eight Holstein Friesian breeders travelled North with twenty two Holstein Friesian cattle and came away winning five classes, three seconds, four third placing, Junior Champion and the coveted Supreme Holstein Champion of the show. The excitement was palpable when seven southern cattle entered the ring for the final line up. The judge Lynn Lee from Tennessee had no hesitation in awarding “Baldonnel Mr S Raquel” owned by John and Cyril Dowling the Holstein Supreme champion. He commented “ She is a beautiful profile cow with an exceptional udder and teat placement”.

Reserve Champion went to S&J Mc Cormick with their senior heifer “Hilltara Jasper Maude”
The Junior championship was won by “Clonpaddin”Holsteins from Co Wicklow with” Clonpaddin GKS Fame”. She is a Sanchez daughter of Cradenhill Linjet Fame.
The Dry Cow win went to the Jones family from Co Wexford with “Ardnasalem Kite Lulu2”
In the Junior Heifer class Richard Whelan of Lumville Holsteins came second with “Lumville Miss Fran” to “Glasson KJ Jasper Sara” owned By Simon and Philip Haffey.
David and Kenneth Boyd win the cow in milk having had two calves with “Glasslough Miss Detra”
Cow in Milk class, having had three calves saw a very strong entry from southern breeders winning the first three placings. Hallow Holsteins came first place with“Hallow Champion Carmen”.Diarmuid Murphy, Co Cork,in second place with “Cannontown Kite Peach” and in third place was Tom Kelly’s “Monamore Talents Allie”
This was a very strong showing from the south and well done to all who competed and those that win prizes.
The Emerald Expo had their launch at the event and it is expected that a strong cohort of Northern Breeders will travel south to Kilkenny on the 6th and 7th July 2012.
