National YMA Calf Show
The Slaney Club had another great year at National Calf show with some brilliant results from our team of calves and handlers. On the 1st day our team of handlers represented us in the Showmanship Classes. All did a super job and some were unlucky not to be placed higher. Our team of handlers who represented us were: Kate & Will Jones, Ellen & Tom Jordan, Josh Sinnott, Kaite Gahan, Sinead Byrne and Louise Sinnott. Ellen Jordan placed 6th and Kate Jones placed 7th in the u10 Novice class. A special well done to Tom Jordan who did a super job for his first time competing. Will Jones came 6th in the Junior Handler. Katie Gahan came 6th in the Intermediate Handler and Louise Sinnott came 2nd in the Mature Handler.

On day 2 our club members who exhibited calves were Jim & Una Sinnott and Philip & Linda Jones. Again with great results all round. Philip & Linda Jones placed 2nd in the March Calf with Hallow Unix Fran. In the Intermediate Calf Class Philip & Linda Jones had a winner with Hallow Solomon Supra. Senior Calf class he had another 1st with Hallow High Octain Dawn followed by Hallow CM Beemer Frost take 1st place in the Summer Yearling Calf Class.

Finally in the Championship Slaney Club took home top honours with Hallow High Octain Dawn claiming Champion Calf, and Hallow CM Beemer Frost Philip & Linda Jones taking Reserve Champion Calf.

A huge congratulations has to go to Philip Jones who bred both the Champion and the Reserve Champion Calf two years running. This is certainly an outstanding achievement.
Well done again to all who competed and were prize winners. The Slaney Club may be one of the smaller clubs at National Calf show but we always dominate with our quality handler and calves. Many thanks to everyone and to those who came out to support the club on the two days.

Tinahely Show
On August Bank Holiday Slaney Club members enjoyed another great day out at Tinahely show. As always everyone was provided with lovely tea and sandwiches in the club caravan. Thanks to all those who took a turn doing the teas on the day. The Jones Family had another tremendous day taking home Junior Champion, Intermediate Champion and Overall Champion.

Barbeque
The Club Barbeque was held in Adrian & Lynne Copelands this year and was a huge success. Thanks to the entire Copeland family for all their hard work in getting it ready, and to Adrian and Lynne for the great facilities, their hospitality and the delicious food and their homemade pizzas.

Tullamore Show
The Club was represented at Tullamore Show by Philip and Linda Jones. They took home 1st in the All Ireland Champion Heifer in Milk with Hallow Atwood Carmen.

Club Trip
On the 9th July, 32 members went to England for the Club Trip. First Stop was a visit to Wensleydale Creamery where we got a beautiful dinner, then we visited a rope factory. That evening some of the group went horse racing in Ripon. On Tuesday we went to the Great Yorkshire Show and then on Wednesday after a look around Ripon we went to visit Newbirks Holsteins owned by The Lawson Family where we saw really tremendous cows.
