Lemrac Youngstock Sale with consignments from Leagh & Lynbrook – Report

Leagh Along Came Polly ET claims top price selling for € 6,500.

31 lots sold at auction, averaging €2,412.

The Lemrac Youngstock sale catalogue offered 12 springing heifers due September/October, 4 springing heifers due next Spring, 30 heifer calves and 2 lots of frozen embryos. Key lots attracted a flurry of bids with strong interest from buyers all over Ireland. Trade was strong for high profile families with multiple generations of VG/EX dams with high milk solids & protein %, bred by internationally recognised high breeding value sires and in some cases carrying pregnancies to top sexed A.I. international sires.

The vendors who combined to put together the special sale offering were; The Moore family, John, Noel, Carmel and Joe (Lemrac), Tim & Maureen Fitzmaurice (Leagh) and John Cunnane (Lynbrook).

A-LH Polly ET EX92 Dam of the top price lot at the Youngstock Sale, lot 5 sold for € 6,500. A number of other family members also sold

The top priced heifer is a daughter of A.L.H. Polly ET EX92 and is sired by Gillette Windbrook ET EX97. She is a maternal sister to 11 EX and over 30 VG cows. Her dam was purchased at a the Tulip European auction for €22,000 and she was maternal sister to 13 EX cows in the USA.  Served to AI, Nure Secretariat EX92 (sexed), Polly has a PD carrying a female with an expected due date of early October.

Lemrac Oralie Atwood (lot 2) was the second-top price on the day selling for €4,500 and was the top price for Lemrac. She is a potential 9th generation VG/EX  with her dam Lemrac Oralie Windbrook scoring VG as a 2 year old, hailing from the Laurie Sheik family. She sold with a P.D. to Westcoast Perseus with a due date of late September.     

Lemrac Solomon Altitude (lot 8) sold for €3,300, potential 9th generation VG/EX . Due to calve early October this well-grown heifer sparked big interest. Her grand dam G.N. Altitude Red 762 VG89 is maternal sister to KHW Regiment Apple Red EX96 3E – Champion Red & White cow World Dairy Expo 2011.  Seven of her nearest eight dams have scored EX (excellent) on conformation. Sired by Walnutlawn Solomon this July ’16 born heifer carries a PD to Westcoast Perseus.

From the same family above, Lemrac Kanu Noel Red P ET (lot 7) sold for €3,200. She is a  potential 9th generation excellent (EX). She is a full sister to Sterndale Kanu Al Noel Polled Red VG87. Having been served to the high type AI sire Poppe Red Hot Darrel Red (sexed) this heifer carries a due date of late October.

John Cunnane’s Lynbrook Ebony Red ET (lot 14) sold for €2,500. A February ’18 born Red & White heifer calf she is a potential 9th generation VG/EX.  She is sired by Label P Red ET. Her dam Lynbrook Jerudo Ebony produced over 10,000kgs milk, 882kgs milk solids and 3.78% protein in her first lactation. Her 3rd dam Lynbrook Stadel Ebony 3 scored EX94 8E on IHFA conformation.

Lemrac Kingboy Faith (lot 25) sold for €3,100. She is a potential 8th generation VG/EX from the Fudge/Cookie family who bred the international A.I. sires Crest and Cricket. Her VG dam is projected to produce over 7,500kgs milk, 535kgs fat & protein and 3.60% protein in this lactation.

Leagh MOM Solomon Pledge ET (lot 26) sold for €2,800. She is a potential 6th generation EX with her four nearest dams averaging EX94 on conformation. To date three of her maternal sisters have scored VG as 2 year olds. This September ’17 heifer is sired by Walnutlawn Solomon.

Ortongrange Doorman Arangatang ET VG87 2-Year-Old 1st & Best Udder Heifer in-milk class Emerald Expo 2018 pictured with owner John Moore, Ben Yates (Judge) & sponsor. Embryos from Arangatang sold for over € 5,000 at the Lemrac Youngstock sale.

An offering of three frozen embryos (grade A) comprised lot 17 selling for a total of €2,640 for John Moore. The dam Ortongrange Doorman Arangatang ET VG87 won 1st Junior Heifer in-milk Emerald Expo 2018. She completes nine generations of VG/EX dams.  She was purchased for 5,000 guineas at the Borderway (UK) Black & White Sale 2016. Her grand dam Kingsway Sanchez Arangatang ET EX95 2E (EX95 MS) was nominated All-Canadian five times and her maternal sister Knowlesmere Goldwyn Abrakaboom ET VG89 was Champion UK Dairy Day 2016.

Lot 18 was a further offering of three frozen embryos (grade A) same pedigree as above and sold for €2,400.

Lynbrook Bandares Arleigh (lot 42) sold for €2,600 for John Cunnane & Tim Fitzmaurice. Her dam is a potential 13th generation VG/EX. She has a projected 1st lactation yield of 9,230kgs milk, 757kgs milk solids, 3.65% protein.  Sired by Wa-Del Yoder Banderas ET this December ’17 born heifer achieved a GTPI of 2366.

A summary of other lots includes;

Leagh Neblina ET (lot 22) sold for €2,400. She is a potential 11th generation VG/EX. Based on (USA) Genomic testing she has a GTPI breeding value of 2577. Sired by OCD Rodgers Franchise ET she has a PD to All. Nure Secretariat EX92 and  sold with five frozen embryos sired by Progenesis Padawan.

From the same dam as lot 22 Leagh Modesty Neblina ET, GTPI 2654 (lot 10) & Leagh Bandaras Neblina, GTPI 2566 (lot 11) both sold for €2,400 respectively.

Lemrac Observer Barbara (lot 21) sold for €2,200. She is a potential 8th generation VG/EX. Her third dam is Rainyridge Talent Barbara RC EX95 who won 1st 5 year old at both the World Dairy Expo U.S.A. and also at the Royal Winter Fair, Canada in 2010. The dam of this heifer is a maternal sister to

Calbrett Supersire Barb  VG86, former world-wide No.1  *RC GTPI & GLPI heifer who was sold for $265,000 at the Cormdale auction sale 2013.

Leagh Solomon Princess ET (lot 27) sold for €2,200. From the Polly family and sired by Walnutlawn Solomon her dam Leagh Masclese Pledge ET VG88 is a daughter of A-L-H Polly EX92.

Lynbrook Miller Elsa (lot 36) sold for €2,150 for John Cunnane & Tim Fitzmaurice. She is a potential 5th generation EX (excellent)and is bred from the Elsa family from whom the top German AI sire Flevo Genetics Snowman was bred. Her dam had protein to 4.00% with the grand dam having protein to 3.85%.

Lemrac Electron Egremont (lot 29) sold for €2,150. She is a potential 6th generation VG/EX. Her VG dam by O-Man CF Cricket is projected to produce 9,491kgs milk, 674kgs milk solids, 3.52% protein. Her pedigree features a sire stack including Jeeves x  Mascot x Starbuck.

The sale was conducted by Taaffe Auctions at Carnaross Livestock mart. All prices are quoted excluding fees and VAT. The Moore family farm along the Offaly/Westmeath border near Rhode. John Cunnane farms outside Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo and the Fitzmaurice family farm is located near Ballyduff in North Kerry.
